The 'Future of Ticketing' Report
Every ticket now has to earn its place. Time has overtaken money as the resource people guard most closely, budgets are tighter, and fans are asking one question before anything else: what's my return on this? Tixel's Future of Ticketing Report: The Live Equation 2030 sets out to answer it.
In mid-2026, Tixel commissioned global research firm Kantar to survey 5,107 people across the US, UK and Australia - a general-population sample of fans who bought a ticket, attended a ticketed live event in the past year, or wanted to but couldn’t. The report identifies five global forces shaping the next era of live:
FORCE #1: Better Together: The group, not the individual, is now the unit of demand
FORCE #2: Elevated Experience: Fans will pay more when the return is visible
FORCE #3: The Happiness Shortcut: A ticket is one of the few purchases that starts paying out the moment you buy it
FORCE #4: The Certainty Premium: What fans are buying now is the confidence to commit
FORCE #5: Living in the Algorithm Age: Algorithms may shape what fans see, but people shape what they trust
The report shows that Australian fans go out more than anyone else in the study, and are also the least exposed, with only 1 in 6 reporting ticket fraud in the past 12 months, against higher rates in the UK and US. And whilst 38% of Aussies reported paying a significantly inflated resale price, it’s significantly less than the UK and US. Tixel reads that as a sign the country's tougher resale laws are working, but the risk has not gone, and it’s hurting those that represent the future of the market over the next decade.
Other key statistics to emerge from the report include:
65% say knowing they can resell if plans change increases their confidence to buy. Level with the UK and US.
49% trust ticketing or event platforms most when deciding whether to attend, 39% trust friends and family, and 4% trust AI. Platform trust level with the UK (49%), ahead of the US (43%). AI trust is the lowest of the three.
78% say live events are great for bonding with friends or family, and 70% call them a form of emotional release rather than just entertainment. Below the UK and US on both. Only 22% strongly agree on emotional release, against 34% in the UK and 37% in the US.
