Advice I’d Give My Younger Self In Artist Management
Put yourself out there, go to all the industry events and take up space!
Proud Moments in Management
What makes me proud is how people speak about the artists I work with. I feel incredibly lucky to work alongside such genuine, kind people who take the time to connect with everyone around them — they always say hi to everyone in the room. They all have such a clear sense of their identity and brand and I find myself completely drawn into their world and eager to get everyone else on board too.
Ultimately, I think it all comes down to working with good people. Having a team that is diverse, and where we all hold one another accountable — creating an environment where everyone feels safe, supported, and heard.
There’s also nothing quite like being in a hyped up crowd during one of my artists’ performances and witnessing everyone around me having such a good time. Management isn’t an easy job - no two days are the same and you’re constantly having to pivot and change plans. But being in those moments make me feel lucky to be part of their journey.
One Change That Could Better Support Managers and Artists
I’d love to create an initiative focused on educating artists about the vital role their managers play. Many artists, especially those new to the industry, don’t always see the amount of work that happens behind the scenes to bring opportunities to life. Building that understanding would strengthen artist–manager relationships and help everyone work more collaboratively.
I’d also love to see more funding and support dedicated to managers themselves. Management is a demanding job that often doesn’t become financially sustainable for several years, yet managers are the backbone helping artists build and grow. When managers are properly resourced, it directly benefits the artists — leading to more breakthroughs, stronger careers, and, ultimately, a healthier and more sustainable music industry overall.
When we recognise how important managers are and give them the right support (so they’re not consistently running on burnout to keep things moving) that ultimately lifts the whole industry.
Key Achievements
1. Bean Magazine debut headline tour selling out Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
2. Budjerah's recent Like A Version.
3. Receiving AAM MAICC funding to attend The Great Escape UK this year
AAM’s Impact on My Journey
The AAM has provided me with countless opportunities and has played a huge role in bridging the knowledge gap for emerging managers in what can often be a very gatekept industry. In a space that has traditionally operated like a “boys’ club” and relied heavily on “who you know,” the AAM has created genuine connection points linking younger managers with more experienced ones, and offering workshops and online sessions led by leading companies from around the world.
Programs like Co-Pilot and Placements have been incredible in providing practical, real-world experience and mentorship. I’m also deeply grateful for the AAM’s advocacy in ensuring managers are included in grant funding - a crucial step forward, as it enables us to attend key shows and conferences to support our artists’ growth.
Through the AAM MAICC fund, I was fortunate to travel to the UK to attend The Great Escape, an experience that was enriching and inspiring, where I was able to talk to international teams about my artists and make connections outside of Australia.
