AAM Mentor Program, Applications Open Now

The AAM has announced its signature artist manager mentor program is now open for applications, with support from APRA AMCOS

Launched mid last year, the mentor program pitches younger managers with AAM Executive and top General members in a unique mentor relationship for 12 months. This year, in addition each successful applicant and their mentor will take part in an induction event to be held early October.

Applicants will be assessed on the quality of the acts that they represent, their experience in management and their ability to plan for their artists careers.

“As a new manager you are constantly heading into unchartered territory, so having someone of Gregg (Donovan)’s experience only a phone call or email away has been invaluable.” Says previous mentee participant, by Nick Lyngah (Them Swoops, Numbers Radio). “I feel incredibly lucky to have a had this opportunity and I am extremely grateful to both AAM and Gregg.”

Additional funding has been provided from a partnership with Warner Music Australia and the Jimmy Little Foundation, to support the existing, and increase the number of, Indigenous managers in Australia. The Jimmy Little Indigenous Managers Fund will cover the successful applicant’s travel and accommodation to attend the induction event, limited related costs and additional skills development opportunities as well as the one-on-one mentorship.

“This is a wonderful opportunity that brings together knowledge and expertise to provide more possibilities for Indigenous artists and their managers. Jimmy instigated this partnership and would be proud to know it is a reality,” said Graham Buzz Bidstrup – AAM Board member and CEO of the Jimmy Little Foundation.

Applications will close Friday August 30, 2013 and this year applications are available online here.

The mentor program is open to AAM members only unless you are applying for the Jimmy Little Indigenous Managers position and then the fund will cover the successful applicant’s membership for 12 months.
